Molecular bases of sensory impairment in neurodevelopmental disorders
The research groups of Drs. Reza Sharif-Naeini and John Orlowski in the Department of Physiology of McGill University have a postdoctoral position available to investigate the molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms responsible for sensory impairments, such as hyposensitivity to pain, observed in an X-linked neurodevelopmental disorder called Christianson Syndrome.
We use a wide array of techniques including cell-type specific genetic and viral manipulations, circuit tracing, slice electrophysiology and behavioral analyses. The laboratories are located in the Bellini Life Sciences Complex of McGill University and are part of a vibrant community of researchers and a world-class center for translational neuroscience with outstanding facilities and a unique training environment in North America. The Sharif laboratory is also part of the Allan Edwards Center for Research on Pain, which combines over 50 basic and clinical pain scientists and is an internationally recognized center in pain research.
Applicants should have (1) a PhD (either completed or nearly completed), (2) experience in neurobiology/electrophysiology (preferable), or molecular biology, and (3) a record of publication.
