We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic candidate for a PhD Studentship in Neuroscience at the University of Turin (Italy) under the supervision of Prof. Silvia De Marchis and Dr. Serena Bovetti. The successful candidate will combine state-of-the- art anatomical and functional techniques to study how salient social cues are represented in the mouse brain. In particular, the project will focus on understanding how different cell types of the olfactory bulb represent ethologically relevant odours in adulthood as well as during animal development. The project will involve a wide number of advanced techniques including tissue clearing, light-sheet microscopy and 3D whole-brain reconstruction, in vivo two-photon functional imaging using the Genetically-encoded Calcium Indicators (GCaMP) of cell activity, and fibre photometry combined to animal behaviour. The research will be carried out at the Neuroscience Institute Cavalieri Ottolenghi (https://www.nico.ottolenghi.unito.it/eng), an interdisciplinary and stimulating research institute of the University of Turin.
