A three-year post-doctoral position is available at the Mitochondrial Dysfunctions in Neurodegeneration Unit headed by Francesca Maltecca, Division of Neuroscience, San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy.
The group focuses on dissecting the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders either primarily or secondarily caused by mitochondrial dysfunction, with the aim to develop therapeutic treatments (https://research.hsr.it/en/divisions/neuroscience/mitochondrial-dysfunctions-in- neurodegeneration.html).
The project, funded by the European Joint Programme for Rare Diseases, aims at testing new complementary treatment strategies, including both repurposed and newly identified molecules, in Autosomal Recessive Spastic Ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay (ARSACS) mouse models. In addition, leveraging cross-species OMICS approaches, the project aims at discovering and validating biomarkers that will enable to follow disease progression and treatment efficacy.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and committed young researcher with a PhD in biological sciences or neuroscience. Expertise with animal work, primary neuronal cultures, imaging and common cell and molecular biology techniques is required. A background is neuroscience /mechanisms of neurodegeneration will represent a plus.
Fluency in English (both spoken and written), independence in work organization and flexibility are requested. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Applications including a complete CV, list of publications, motivation letter and at least 2 referees should be addressed to Francesca Maltecca (maltecca.francesca@hsr.it).
