Reasearch’s Lab : The Laboratory of Cardiorespiratory Control (CRC_Lab) at the Department of Physiology of the Faculty of Biological Sciences from the P. Universidad Católica de Chile is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral trainee interested in pursuing an independent career in neurophysiology. Prospective candidates will be trained and participate in state-of-the-art physiological experiments to study hemodynamic and respiratory function in freely moving animals, including in-vivo optogenetics and DREADDs manipulation, in-vivo and in-vitro electrophysiology and optogenetics, brain-targeted microinjection for gene or drugs delivery, confocal microscopy imaging and molecular biology of signaling pathways.
Candidate Profile : Applications from qualified PhDs with a strong background in patch-clamp electrophysiological recordings and expertise in brain slices preparation are highly desirable. Expectations include setting up an adult rodent brain slice preparation for patch-clamp recordings, writing grants and manuscripts, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting research at national and international meetings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Selected candidate will be asked to apply for a FONDECYT postdoctoral fellowships in the field of cardiovascular, respiratory, and/or neural control of autonomic function to continue his/her training program. This call will fully cover the salary of the selected candidate for a period of 6 months or until the publication of the results from the FONDECYT postdoctoral fellowships. If not successful, a 6-12 months extension will be evaluated according to selected candidate training program and productivity.
Selected candidates will be sponsored by Professor Rodrigo Del Rio, PI of the CRC_Lab, and co-sponsored by Professor Fernando Ortiz, PI of the Myelin lab (Universidad Autónoma de Chile) to apply for a 3-year FONDECYT fellowship, awarded annually by the Chilean funding agency ANID. Sponsorship is required for the application but does not guarantee success. FONDECYT fellowships offers a highly competitive salary of CH$21.240.000 (approx. US$4,500).
Application : Applications must include a cover letter that indicates explicitly why he/she is interested in the position at the CRC_Lab, a CV including PhD graduation date, list of publications and two letters of recommendation. All materials should be sent by email in PDF format to Prof. Rodrigo Del Rio (rdelrio@bio.puc.cl). Proposers should contact Professor Del Rio at the earliest convenience, allowing enough time to develop the strongest possible research plan for the final application.
As an equal opportunity employer CRC_Lab emphatically encourages applications from proposers of all nationalities and underrepresented minorities.
