Job description
A 24-36 months post-doctoral position in neurosciences is available to join an interdisciplinary new research group at the University of Oslo at the intersection of system neuroscience, sleep research and neurobiological development. The successful applicant will join the team Sleep and Cognitive Development led by principal investigator Charlotte Boccara at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences.
More about the position
Boccara’s team is composed of young international researchers coming from different backgrounds and benefits from a very good academic and social environment. Boccara has experience from publishing in top journals (Science 2019, Science 2017, Nature Neuroscience 2010, Science 2008). The team just received a prestigious grant from the Norwegian research council for their project combining advanced techniques in in vivo electrophysiology with neurodevelopmental tools to investigate the role of sleep in cognitive development. The applicant will work on developing innovative recording and optogenetic methods to monitor and manipulate sleep in rodent pups with the aim to publish in the highest-ranking journals. In addition, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to become a Marie Curie Scientia Fellow. Scientia Fellows is a transnational fellowship programme in the field of Health Life Sciences. In addition to focus on excellent research, the programme supports innovation activities and strives to bring together academia, hospital and industry in cross-sectoral collaborations. Through this programme, researchers can enhance their career, improve networking and develop new transferable skills. Qualification requirements
Ph.D. in neurosciences or a related discipline. The ideal candidate should have a strong neuroscience background with accomplishments demonstrated by first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as training in computational and statistical methods for analysis. The applicant should have experience with some of the following technics/disciplines: electrophysiology, optogenetics, rodent behaviour, sleep scoring, neurodevelopment, mice genetics, viral and neurodevelopment tools. Training in Oslo or in one of our collaborator’s lab will be provided to the right person as necessary to fill any skill gaps.
Mobility requirement:
In order to be eligible for becoming a Marie Curie Scientia Fellow, the applicant must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Norway for more than 12 months in the last 3 years immediately prior to the 20th of November 2020. Priority will be given to eligible applicants. The position length will increase from 24 to 36 months only for Marie Curie Scientia Fellows.
